We are all public makers
One of the growing sectors of Europe is Digital Social Innovation (DSI) – it involves digital social innovators and organisations that use of digital tools for social change.
We reckon that many DSI involves many themes, such as gender, healthcare, education, public problem-solving and many people and stakeholders need to be involved. The more we become shapers of our communities, the more we become PUBLIC MAKERS.
WHAT IS PUBLIC MAKING?
PUBLIC MAKING IS THE PROCESS OF RAISING AWARENESS & SHAPING LOCAL CONTEXT THROUGH THE LEARNING PROCESS/USAGE OF OPEN DATA AS SHARED PLANNING TOOL.
Yes, you have read correctly. Open data are an extraordinary tool to detect main trends, de-structuring aggregated data, empowering citizens to understand how funds, actions, public decisions of decision-makers are implemented.
Some examples of how open data can be used are budget spending investigation, analysis of immigration numbers, and environmental policies or rural market shares. And, of course, much more!
But for us, public making is not just about open data. It is more about the active citizenship process and on how citizens participate to shared solutions for local problems.
